Would you pay more taxes for better police?

Not for Neink / michaelthomas, or for our bros trying to move Wall Street to Miami.

Was reading about the Ma'Khia Bryant situation and de-escalation. Would you be willing to pay more for

a) Police de-escalation and community based training, including for racial bias

b) Significant raises for police

The former, when combined with reforms, has proven to be successful under Obama (I've seen quotes for serious use of force declines between 30-60%, though Trump got rid of Obama's consent decrees as part of his "tough on crime" image). The latter is pretty much the only way to get higher quality folks in the long-run.

NYPD is roughly 6% of the state budget. NY state income tax is roughly 9% for the highest bracket. Would you be willing to pay say an additional 1-2% of state income tax for better police?

Are they actually, I have no idea how much cops make. I know they get pensions and probably good health insurance, but don't know anything about salary.

This is a thread about policing and taxes. If you are a grand wizard, there are other sites you can visit.

What about forcing police forces to meet diversity quotas? Seems to me that having police forces with demographics that match surrounding areas would decrease the us vs them mentality of minorities and police. Increased funding would just be spent on robot dogs like in NY or other wastes of money.

Post like this make it seem like police forces are just armies of white people when in reality they're very diverse, especially in larger cities. You could make the force entirely made up of blacks and that won't change the fact that black people chimp out when getting arrested, regardless of who is doing the arresting

Its hard for me to want them to make more when I grew up around some super corrupt police forces that scammed so much overtime to the point where some made over 300k a year (among other things)...
