This is how I feel
The last two weeks have been very tough.
After trying to install some new modules for Drupal that would give some private forums, I think our entire database got out of whack. In the process of trying to speed things back up I upgraded to a monster server, only to be disappointed. I should have known that throwing hardware at the problem is rarely the solution.
Fast forward to today. We are on a new theme that FINALLY works in Internet Explorer 6 (no more columns jumping into the middle of the page!) The theme still has some tweaks but should be finished in a few days. I also hired a consultant today to continue the investigation into why it now takes 5+ seconds to load the forum page and 10+ seconds to load the track tab in the user profiles.
does anybody remember it taking so long to load the track tab on users profiles? I might have to disable this feature and leave the Recent Posts if my new Drupal guru can't figure this one out. i am trying my best and have already sunk much $ to try and bring the load times down but the results have only been partially successful. I am either going to break something soon or cry like the baby in this picture.
One bottleneck after the other. But we'll get there...thanks for your support during the slow performance. I really apologize and we will get to the bottom of it. I just needed to vent and wanted to give everyone the heads up that a lot of work is being done behind the scenes to try and improve the speed, look and features.
Stay tuned,
Patrick
Thank you for all the hard work!! We all appreciate it a lot, WSO is an awesome resource, I wish I had discovered it ealier..
To give you an idea of how complex this situation is -- one of the best Drupal Guru's wrote a case study about WSO's Forums and the performance problems: http://2bits.com/articles/how-drupals-nodeaccess-table-can-negatively-i…
unfortunately, all of comments are very bearish on the Drupal Forum module...although I still think it had something to do with a module we tried to install a week or so ago called Forum Access and ACL.
Why not move over to vbulletin? It's a much more robust forum solution. Drupal is great as a CMS, but not so much as forum software as you're realizing.
"Thank for your support.." No man. Thank You! :-)
And yeah I'd echo the comment on moving over to vBulletin.... seems to be much more stable/widespread.
Of course, you could always just add another server or 3, right? :)
Bump for Vbulletin..... I can look into what my buddies over at Elite trader use. Shhhh dont tell them im a defactor!
