Sports car recommendations?
First, a few disclaimers...
-
This is for my uncle, a former banker and now full time real estate investor
-
He is hellbent on buying a coupe, and prefers speed and power over anything
-
He prefers pre-owned
-
He is relocating after a divorce to South Florida and will be using this ride as a daily driver
His budget is 40k cash
Suggestions?
Nothing better than a used Porsche 911. I think for $40k you can pick up a nice 997 era model, potentially Carrera S. They make great daily drivers because they're comfortable, they're small enough to drive around, they're so well built it'll last a long time, they're very fast and punch above their weight, and they're just fun. I think the alternatives are used BMW M series models or Mercedes AMG, potentially an older Corvette. The BMW and Mercedes will be heavier and less fun to drive, the Corvette will fall apart because they're cheaply made.
I have loved the Civic Type-r. It’s fun and very practical, plus with mods you can squeeze quite a bit out if it. The Miata is another good one. The Fiat 124 spider. Chevy Camaros, Ford Mustangs. Lots of good options with these two in terms of builds. Not all of those are coupes but good options when it comes to under 40k sports cars. A Challenger would be my choice. The Challenger r/t packs close to 490hp and like 475 lbs of torque. You can pump those numbers up.
Ohhh I forgot about Vipers. Those are good too.

The M4, 440, M2, and the Cayman are the best options on that list in terms of reliability and fun.
I'd skip the Bentley (major reliability issues)
The 640 is extremely underwhelming compared to the other BMWs on that list
Problem with the Nissan is that it's a Nissan
Vettes have shit build quality
Can't emphasize the M4 enough. The new generation was released so the F82 models (2015 - 2020) will come further down in price. They're gorgeous, extremely fast and with the right options, very luxurious. I would definitely recommend this over the equivalently priced 911 because at 40k, you're probably looking at an early 997 generation which is nearly 15 years old.
Pretty much agree on all these points. I like the M4.
I had to give the disclaimers so they can see the career path, life progression lol. In regards to his choices in life, that's another thread (including his decision to buy this car), but he has the money and is not going in debt to do this.
I wouldn't buy anything under '16 for a daily driver. BMW M4 or Mercedes C63 are nice options in that price range.
Porsche is never a bad choice
Agreed, but they aren't really an option for a real estate guru with a $40k budget
Mercedes C63 AMG or any Porsche 911 in that price range
Mercedes C63 AMG or any Porsche 911 in that price range
Update - Looks like he's picking up a 640i coupe Wednesday.
A 640i is considered a sports car nowadays?
he doesn't prefer pre-owned. it's just what he's decided will get him the best bang for his buck during his so obvious midlife crisis. he can just imagine himself pulling latina hos with the gently used Z06 outside the arbys with his neck diaper on
