Is GE a must own stock for the long term investor?

Although it is dependent on the euro and is expected to decline in the upcoming weeks, it seems that GE is going to have a bright future. With advancing technologies GE is looking to join the environmental movement introducing new technologies to India. Zero liquid discharge eliminates liquid discharge from plants, reducing water consumption by up to 90% ! It is also looking to expand its operations to developing countries such as Brazil and Kenya.

I have no doubt that GE is a great company, but there are definitely a lot of factors that go into making a investment decision. I don't necessarily believe that by joining the environmental movement makes it a buy. I believe that this movement into more environmentally friendly policies is more of an ethical ploy than a profit maximizing one. At the same time, GE is a HUGE company and no one should expect it to grow that much. However, I believe that GE will have a lasting dividend that will definitely stay intact for years to come.
