new bmws have gotten really reliable, anything with the b58 engine is great and the s58 in the m3/4 is amazing. Porsche is still the king when it comes to performance and reliability. Avoid Mercedes as a whole imo. Audi has some great ones (anything RS/S series you like is decently reliable and fun). And obviously the Japanese ones are stupidly reliable and hold value well (Lexus/Acura) but tend to sacrifice luxury on the interior and performance a little. Depending on price range i’d really recommend: BMW, m340i, m240i, m3, m4. Porsche, anything you like in your budget, don’t be scared to go a used on these porche owners tend to take great care of their cars. Audi, s4, rs3, rs7, ttrs.

Would recommend the fully loaded Velar for SUV - not super reliable but perfect balance of sharp looks & comfort. Look at the 2021-2022 models, new ones have too much a minimalist design for my taste.

For speed without breaking the bank, bmw 340 - understated and quick AF.

For the apex of speed and handling, Porsche 911 - any year will do

Lol that’s a fair point. My Range hasn’t given me any mechanical issues except the occasional freezing screens so I might be a bit biased there.

The truth is most luxury cars will hurt your bank account the moment they need repairs so I always go in with the mindset that things will break down after few years of ownership.

The recently refreshed Tesla Model 3 Long Range is likely, dollar for dollar, the best vehicle ever made--again, dollar for dollar. AWD, incredible handling, insane sound system (yes, it's better than Bose and Harmon Kardon), crazy speed (0-60 4.2 seconds) and overall quickness, and an essentially zero maintenance vehicle (had my Model 3 for 3 1/2 years with zero maintenance). The extremely low fuel costs, however, are offset by the extremely high insurance costs, so that's basically a wash. If you can charge at home, it's incredibly convenient. Sticker price is about $48,000 before potential tax credits, bringing the car into the low $40s or potentially the sub-$40k range, which is insane for what you get.

As someone with a Porsche. I freaken love it until you have maintenance. Be prepared to be put through the ringer when you need to get something fixed. Example, my battery died two months ago when we got snow. Its only 3 years old. My model has a lithium ion battery which are not great because if they run out of charge they die. Unlike AGM where if they run out of charge you can jump start, drive it a bit and let it charge back up. OK that's one thing but Porsche is the only company that has a computer connection to their lithium ion battery. BMW and Mercedes do not. This means this specific battery is only good for this model. You cannot just walk into a battery store and get it. Only Porsche sells it. Oh and they costs $3k. Unlike Mercedes or BMW where I can go to battery warehouse and do the swap myself. Porsche is super protective of their technology and their engineers are always paranoid.
