Tried Everything. Advice?
Hey everyone,
I want to keep this as short as possible without leaving relevant info. I graduated from the top undergrad business school in Toronto last summer with tons of really strong extracurriculars (cap mgmt, investments, consulting etc.) but not the greatest marks. I switched programs after my 2nd year because I changed careers paths from law to finance.
For a year now, I've been trying to get a position in IB, PE, Asset mgmt, Cap Mgmt even corp. dev etc. My end goal is to get into investment banking and potentially move out of Toronto to work abroad but I am not getting any interviews. The only interview I've received was an assistant position at a boutique firm downtown.
During this year, I spent my time in retail banking at a top 5 bank. A job I got during uni that is very comfortable but obviously not what I want to do and definitely not relevant experience to my future goals.
I've reached out to current analysts, managers, recruiters, campus recruiters (all no replies), applied on LinkedIn, indeed, career centre (no interviews) and even met analysts in person to network and get a competitive advantage but it seems the current hiring freeze has really shot down any opportunities.
Any advice on what I should do to improve my chances of getting a interview or what I can do in the mean time to ride out this freeze. I'm thinking of maybe doing an MBA to try and improve my chances..
Thank you!
