Rejected after MD referral: is this normal? S&T

Hi, last week I have been referred by a MD in NY for a 25SA at a BB (bofa level) and I have been rejected without even an interview.
I am an incoming MIT MFin student and I have some relevant experience + top grades at eu target, so I’m wondering if this is normal since it’s late in the process/because I’m international (EU) or because of my cv.

I was expecting to at least get an interview since my cv is decent so I’m wondering if this is expected cause class is filled or am I just being entitled?

Asking to get a reality check and more color.

Okay thank you. Since I am going to apply to London and also other opportunities in the US I wanted to know if it MUST be my cv or there are other factors even with a senior referral.

Also, do you know for a fact the MD referred you? They could have told you they did and then just forgotten. If your resume has relevant experience and GPA is reasonable and you got an auto-rejection then it is almost definitely a specific criterion in the application portal (non-us, or done recruiting) that's the problem
