MBB Dubai vs BB Credit Risk NY for FT

Hi All,

I have a little dilemma for which I would love to hear your thoughts. I did an SA this summer at a BB in credit risk in NY and secured the FT offer - I have till Nov 1 to decide. However, I also have a final round with a MBB's Dubai office on the same date. What should I do? What's better in terms of comp, location and exit opps (I definitely want to go get a MBA in a few years and I feel the MBB position puts me in a better position for that). Is the MBB position severely devalued by being in the Middle East? Also, I don't know how much this matters, but I am an international student so the BB will potentially give me a chance at a future Green Card which could be very valuable for me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for all you help,
A Confused Senior

Definitely MBB if you want to do a MBA down the road. In banking, offices outside of the developed Western markets could mean for a 'devalued' view due to the scope and kind of mandates you get being different and perhaps less complex. I'm not sure if the same applies for MBB in terms of the quality of your experience, but at least from a MBA perspective, that international exp could make you stand out.

Assuming you get the MBB offer, ignoring all the other factors (MBA, US vs. Dubai, etc) what is more interesting to you and what role would allow you to build skill sets more useful for your future goals. It's probably best to think about it in this regard.

Thanks so much for your response Kanon! Since I haven't had any experience in consulting previously I can only speak to my summer experience in risk. I found it slightly dry and monotonous and wasn't exactly what I thought it would be going in. Going through the whole consulting process, and talking to current consultants, I feel that I would enjoy that type of work a little more.

I'd love to hear the opinion of current consultants or people working in risk management as well.

Not Middle Eastern, but South Asian descent. Working in the ME doesn't complicate the green card process I think, but it definitely pushes it back a few years (i.e. the years I could have spent working in NYC would be lost).
