Lateraling after 1st year or 2nd Year

I'm currently a 1st year analyst at a MM (Baird/Piper/HL/Cowen) in the (consumer/industrials/healthcare) group and finishing my 1st year this coming month but the lateral market seems to be not so great right now. Whats the opinion on lateraling around 1 year 8 months in to 2 years to TMT at a BB? Will analysts typically lose a year since its going up market and different group? Is the work really inherently different from an analyst's perspective if he/she is in consumer or TMT? At the end of the day, the tasks are more or less the same but the metrics/companies will obviously be different. Wanted to hear everyone's opinion and any analysts that lateraled and can speak to their process/experiences. Appreciate it.
