Where to find list of notable M&A deals?
I am applying for Summer Analyst Positions. Yes I know I'm pretty late in the game right now. I am writing cover letters and am wondering where to find deals that firms have done to include in my cover letter. I have heard from a variety of sources that including a notable deal you find interesting, ie. Disney Marvel Goldman deal, will look good to recruiters and show a true level of interest. Maybe this is something I should not do? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Come on bruh, it's 2023. You have to be more resourceful than that if you want to get into banking.
That's the list ChatGPT came up with.
Give me a list of the most notable M&A deals.
As of my last update in September 2021, here are some of the most notable M&A (Mergers and Acquisitions) deals that had a significant impact on the business world:
Amazon's Acquisition of Whole Foods Market (2017): Amazon, the e-commerce giant, acquired Whole Foods Market, a high-end grocery chain, for approximately $13.7 billion. This deal marked Amazon's entry into the brick-and-mortar retail space.
Walt Disney Company's Acquisition of 21st Century Fox (2019): Disney purchased 21st Century Fox's entertainment assets, including film and television studios, for $71.3 billion. The acquisition significantly expanded Disney's content library and gave them control over major franchises like X-Men and Avatar.
Facebook's Acquisition of Instagram (2012): Social media giant Facebook acquired Instagram, a popular photo-sharing platform, for $1 billion. Instagram continued to grow and became a vital part of Facebook's business strategy.
Microsoft's Acquisition of LinkedIn (2016): Microsoft acquired the professional networking platform LinkedIn for $26.2 billion. This deal provided Microsoft with access to LinkedIn's vast professional user base and data.
Verizon's Acquisition of Yahoo! (2017): Verizon Communications acquired Yahoo!'s core internet business for $4.48 billion. This acquisition combined Yahoo!'s online assets with AOL (acquired by Verizon in 2015) to form Oath Inc.
AT&T's Acquisition of Time Warner Inc. (2018): AT&T acquired Time Warner, a media and entertainment company, for $85.4 billion. The deal brought properties like HBO, Warner Bros., and CNN under AT&T's control.
Pfizer's Acquisition of Allergan (2015): Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer acquired Allergan, the maker of Botox, in a deal worth $160 billion. However, the deal was later terminated due to changes in the U.S. tax code.
Anheuser-Busch InBev's Acquisition of SABMiller (2016): Anheuser-Busch InBev, the world's largest brewer, acquired SABMiller, the second-largest brewer, for around $107 billion. This created a brewing giant with a significant global presence.
Tesla's Acquisition of SolarCity (2016): Tesla acquired SolarCity, a solar energy company, for approximately $2.6 billion. The deal aimed to create an integrated sustainable energy company.
Bayer's Acquisition of Monsanto (2018): Bayer, the German pharmaceutical and chemical company, acquired Monsanto, an agricultural biotechnology corporation, for $63 billion. This deal faced scrutiny due to Monsanto's controversial history with genetically modified organisms (GMOs).
Please note that there might have been significant M&A deals that occurred after my last update, and I recommend checking more recent sources for the latest notable M&A deals.
I was going to come here and comment the same exact thing
Yes, I already tried this I'm referring to deals that a specific firm has done. Chat GPT doesn't really provide certified sources either. It can pull stuff out of its ass and there's no backing to it. I'm asking about a database or something like that.
Bloomberg is your best friend. Either that or go to a firm’s recent transactions page.
Thank you!
Focusing on the wrong thing if you're spending this much time writing a cover letter. Hate to break it to you, but those things to not get read. Use chat GPT to write cover letter and put the rest of your effort into networking.
You're probably right. But don't you think all firms have an AI scanner at this point? I am hesitant to use a fully AI-generated cover letter.
Don’t use AI to write anything important. It will be obvious. Good news is that your cover letter, like your networking emails, should be short.
