is gpa tablestakes for a first round or do you need it to push you further in processes. Could the 3.95+ summa kid get pushed over a 3.8x kid from first to second round.

I would say it’s not as crazy to get a first round (just a checkmark, usually most get rx interviews given how few applicants there are as long as you do some networking). Definelty is important post as well. This is also my perspective: current sophomore at a target for M&a and non target for rx who landed PJT/EVR/HL

After you get the first round interview, GPA will not matter at all for the rest of the process. Your interview performance and resume will matter more.

would rx groups give any leniency for those in objectively harder majors (e.g. math, physics?) or is a 3.9 math major gpa = 3.9 finance major gpa all else equal?

Even as a math major, you probably want a 3.75+. Unfortunately, not much leniency is given and the vast majority of kids hired into RX are either diversity or have GPAs above 3.85 these days

curious, do you think its worth it for a math/cs major to just run easy classes next sem for a 3.85+ or keep with the rigor for a 3.80-3.84? I would like to keep learning but if there is a serious material difference ig its just one sem.

Am I being an idiot for asking how would people end up getting a sub 3.8 GPA?

Work at a top rx group, have sub 3.5. Just have to make it to coffee chat and impress.

do you think pjt/EVR could have been achievable with more networking or impossible bc so many good candidates
