Rejoining banking as a VP (I am almost 40 :o! )
Hi all,
I am a female, almost 40 yo, and am rejoining Corporate Banking at a BB bank as a VP (after a short stint at a fintech). Do you think it's a right move? I'm quite concerned that clearly I am on an older side... Thanks!
:o
Yes! Absolutely.
Assume better hours than IB, what are we talking here? 60/wk?
do you have kids/family?
I imagine 50-60 hrs max. I'm chosing this route for stability and job security. Got cut in a fintech (1st time in all my career), and it's a v shitty experience.. Family is another thing.. I don't have one but I am hoping to get married and have a kid in a couple of yrs the latest..
Is your age the only concern? If so, what does upward mobility look like where you're going? Can you hit milestones and move up the ranks quicker or is there a set process?
Age and job security. A bit worried that banks tend to get rid of people in their 50s the latest.. Feel can definitely progress quicker there though or keep looking and jump the ships to director in a year or so
I think you'll be ok unless you end up a 50 year old director :). Titles are generally older in corporate anyway.
Think you're more likely to be cut as a low producing director because that's the best bang for buck in a bad environment, really don't think it would be because of your age.
Honestly when I was at Big banks, a lot of the corporate VPs were in their late 30s/early 40s. It's just not the same progression speed as you find in IB.
I wouldn't sweat it. Corporate banking is usually very good for WLB and raising a family.
