Master's of Finance for Investment Banking NYC placement
I'm currently a senior with a Corporate Client Banking internship at a BB(JPM, GS) Unfortunately, I missed the recruiting cycle for Investment Banking and am now looking to recruit for full-time positions. As an international applicant on a STEM extension from my undergraduate degree, I am considering two master's programs: UT and Vanderbilt. Both programs have strong reputations, and I've noticed through LinkedIn that Vanderbilt predominantly places graduates in MM firms. whereas UT sees placements at bulge bracket banks. Considering UT is more expensive, which program would you recommend given my background and my ultimate goal to work in a bulge bracket bank in New York, followed by a transition to UMM/MF Additionally, I would appreciate any suggestions for other master's programs that are still accepting applications.
Based on the WSO Dataset, both UT and Vanderbilt have distinct strengths and placement trends that align with your career goals in investment banking, particularly in NYC. Here’s a breakdown to help you make an informed decision:
University of Texas at Austin (UT):
Vanderbilt University:
Additional Suggestions: - Other Programs: Considering other master's programs still accepting applications, you might want to look into schools like Duke, Northwestern, or Notre Dame, which have top MMS programs. These programs are also well-regarded and might offer additional recruitment opportunities.
Recommendation: Given your ultimate goal to work in a bulge bracket bank in New York, UT might be a slightly better option due to its direct placement into such firms. However, the strong alumni network at Vanderbilt should not be underestimated, as it can facilitate transitions into bulge bracket banks and later into upper-middle-market or mega funds.
Always consider the overall fit, including academic culture, potential networking opportunities, and financial implications before making your final decision. Networking aggressively, regardless of your chosen program, will be key to achieving your goals in the competitive field of investment banking.
