LASIK before SA 2024
Hi all - apologies if this sounds dumb to some of you. I'm an incoming 2024 NYC IB SA at a GS/MS/JPM. Group is not known to be the sweatiest in the street and generally positive culture, but have been told to expect frequent late nights & first in/last out mentality from current team, which of course I am more than happy to do as an intern.
Only issue being, I have pretty miserable vision. Like -5 on both eyes to where I'm not functional without correction. Wear daily contacts pretty much every day so am used to that, but also have a backup pair of glasses. However, my contacts naturally dry out after 12 hours and are unhealthy to wear for prolonged periods/cause headaches etc.
Would it be a bad idea to do LASIK in May post-finals; would the 2-3 weeks downtime be enough for recovery or would the late nights of laptop staring over summer make it worse; or is it just better off to have a spare pair of glasses in the office to wear at night? Just curious if anyone has had experience with the procedure and has found it helpful or useful at work. 21 seems to be a fine age to get it done from what I've seen. Thanks so much

Just bring your glasses and take out your contacts during the evening. Nobody would care. Also, I'm pretty sure LASIK has no downtime, but PRK does, so double check which procedure you'd plan to get.
I got LASEK a few years ago, and started an internship (not junior SA, just at a tiny shop during break) a couple weeks after. Prob not the best idea, but it was doable (but fyi it was 9-5 type work). LASIK is better than LASEK in terms of pain, but it did hurt like a mf for a few days for me.
I would recommend you to wear glasses for the summer just to be safe, and get the eye procedure done during your senior year. It is one of the best decision I made for myself and it really is life changing as someone who had horrible vision before
Just wear the glasses
This should be a conversation with your healthcare provider, not WSO
Tbf they're unlikely to understand an 80 hour week desk internship
Did a similar surgery called SMILE at the Manhattan LASIK Center before I started as an analyst. From my experience it was the best decision I could’ve made. My procedure lasted ~30min for each eye with honestly no pain after (had it done on a Friday and was fine back by Monday)
My fiancée did LASIK when she was ~21, but she’s asleep rn for me to ask recovery time.
Reply to this tomorrow so I remember to ask her.
I got the LASIK when I was 30. Did it on a Thursday and went back to work on Monday. I did not have any issues at all using the computer screen for extended periods of time. Just follow all the post-op instructions and wear some glasses that will prevent you from touching or rubbing your eyes if they get fatigued. Blue light glasses work great to help reduce that stress. You won't regret getting LASIK, either. I was also -5.5 in both eyes and my life has improved since getting the procedure.
