Lack of successful exits in Europe lately

I've been surprised by the apparent scarcity of successful or notable exits in Europe lately.

I am an A1 at GS/MS/JP in an EMEA industry group, and I have not seen the number of exits to the buy side I was expecting based on WSO discussions etc. Most good ones were based on diversity recruiting or prior connections (i.e., past internships).

What are your perceptions of exit opportunities in Europe right now? Am I misguided by the exit posts from the USA?

id go as far to say the good exits in europe were never good nor sustainable due to european structural issues. historically exits benefitted from tailwinds such as low interest rates and unprescedented capital flows into the nascent PE and PC sectors

europe faces extinential headwinds and london and europe are entrenching themselves as europoor satellite offices vs US. europe has not addressed energy insecurity, capital markets union, poor widespread corporate adoption of english, lack of subsidies to support technology or advanced sectors, lack of leading technology companies, onerous state aid laws

Very interesting. Curious to hear if your fund (a) participates in diversity recruiting and (b) uses a specific HH that might be the issue.

Have made some weird experiences with HH in Europe, acting as gatekeepers

Yes - part of our recruitment is diversity but I am not only referring to diversity hiring.

We use a combination of head hunters and shouldn’t be the issue frankly.

I don't know if you are specifically referring to the analyst or rather the associate level, but I personally had the experience of talking to KEA recently and they were really not open to put any of my friends that were in touch with them -- or me for that matter lol -- in to junior processes with your type of firm.

And I am not talking about barebones profiles, but imo rather good ones (think continental European with previous BB/ MBB and multiple UMM/ MF internships). Of course not saying they have a god given right to get into processes, but surprised to hear they're not getting into processes when London UMM/ MF clearly seem to be actively looking.
