How to be the best summer analyst possible?
Recently offered a summer analyst spot at a middle market bank coverage group in the midwest, looking for advice on how to be the best summer analyst possible? At my other non-IB internships some of my fellow interns were referred to as "liabilities" or "$x/hour of expense" by the full-time coworkers that I became friends with. Never having IB experience, I'd really like to avoid scoring nicknames like that.
What can I do to help the team out?
Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. Interns always try to get work done ASAP without checking for 3-4 times. An analyst would rather get something an hour "late" that's error-free compared to 2 hours "early" that's riddled with errors. Print things out, triple check things, hit F7
Sweet thanks
Have the mindset that the best ROI for your time is whatever saves your analyst the most of theirs. That entails thinking ahead - clearly communicating - and - learning to pick up on the communication style of those to whom you report.
