Canadian Target vs Full-Ride

I got accepted to queen’s commerce with no financial aid, but I also got offered a full ride to a non target uni (think Carleton, Dalhousie, UOttowa).

For reference, I’m looking to break into high finance (IB, HF, PE).

What should I do? Does anybody have any advice or thoughts?

Queen's hands down over those other schools you mentioned. We could have a debate if you were comparing Queen's to other targets or semi-targets, but the ones you mentioned are straight non-target schools (no offence).

Queens.

Can place into some of the best seats in finance if you try hard enough. Like on par with Harvard. You’ll more than make up for the cost in a few years with salary.

On par with Harvard

Yeah, right. We see you, Queens grad.

I don't go to Queen's but he's not crazy. Their placements are unreal.

I'm not a Queens alum - I went to the dirtiest of dirty non-targets and used to envy Queen's (still do), but have just grown up. Their and Ivey's placements are lights out.

A school that annually sends double digit people into some of the best seats in finance is a global target.

Ivey has a way bigger class so obviously will send more people to finance. Need to look at the per capita data if not it's skewed

I wouldnt say extreme outlier, I go to a non target in Canada. Have a poor gpa (sub 3.5), decent ecs, 0 network and was able to land roles that I want (I did an s&t after my first year at a big 5 and have an offer for another big 5 next summer for s&t, have not targeted IB but others at my school have been successful). I did not network for these roles at all, maybe i was lucky or something but it has worked out fine for me.

I know many 1st years getting interviews at big5 for capital markets, sure I probably got lucky to an extent, but most people in the finance club at school are getting capital market roles, sure we dont send kids to the states or top globals in toronto but with putting in a little bit of work big 5 should be feasible for anyone willing to put in the effort.

US semi target > Canadian target for finance.

This coming from a Canadian who studied in both countries.

The ONLY situation I would take the free ride over Queens is if you wanted to do Big4 audit or something in Ottawa or some other weaker Canadian city.

Queens evens sends interns to NYC for IB...

It is a target for the varying banks offices in Canada (Big 5, BBs, EBs), you must be incredibly slow!
