Unironically there’s a playlist on Spotify called “Financial Modeling - Investment Banking” by the user “capexpenditure” which I really enjoy for this purpose.

Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada for more mentally taxing things. I can’t do songs with lyrics if I need more than 20% concentration. Otherwise stuff like The Avalanches, DJ Shadow for turning comments on models, and if doing other stuff I just hit shuffle and see where my music takes me.

Investment banking playlist on Spotify by Zaahid Khan is underrated. The playlist is 14 hours long, haven’t worked in IB until you’ve listened to the entire playlist in one shift…

Vasudeva - 3 Acoustics EP on repeat for 6+ hours.

Joel Beving discography.

Skyrim Atmospheres. None of the songs, just the 45-min "Atmospheres" track.

Animals as Leaders, the Ocean, Edge of Sanity, Tool, Doom soundtrack, etc in lieu of caffeine.

Alive 2007 - Daft Punk was a favorite as an analyst.

The best music for productivity in my opinion does not have lyrics (or is in a foreign language) and does not require you to check your phone to change songs or skip to a better song. What works best for me is to use YouTube Premium or VancedMusic and create a playlist of DJ sets. These are usually better curated than algorithmic Spotify/Apple playlists and have better flow than user constructed ones. For example, Ostgut Ton (the label for Berghain) has a whole series of DJ sets on YouTube; one of my favorites is with Ben Klock.

I have also used the app Endel (AI generated electronic music) to limited success. Also, movie soundtracks and glitch/ambient music (e.g., almost anything Ryuichi Sakamoto or Brian Eno have done) are good for more ‘thoughtful’ type work like reading docs.

Also Yeezus is just about 45 minutes long and is the perfect album to bang out something furiously quickly
