Hey Everyone,
I just wanted to ask, which route according to you all is a better/easier way to get into a macro fund and why is it so?
-
IB (M&A) -> HF
-
S&T -> HF
Thanks a lot for your time.

These two routes enter different strategies/types of hedge funds. Go do some research on different hedge fund strategies and you might start to see why one favours a banker Vs a trader.
This is kind of like asking "I want to be a scientist, should I study biology or chemistry" when the question is really what type of scientist do you want to be?
Hey,
Thanks a lot for the reply. I have updated the question. Now, can you please explain which one is more preferred by a macro fund, and why?
S&T because macro funds hire traders, not dealmakers.
S&T-> Macro(e.g. Fixed income, fx, commodities), RV, Credit, Execution(no pnl contribution)
IB-> everything else (l/s equity etc) + credit
Hey,
Thanks a lot for the detailed preference list.
If you can’t figure this one out by yourself, I wouldn’t worry about working at a hedge fund
Hi, just wondering if credit is possible from both IB and S&T due to IB having the deal experience and familiarity with debt structures etc, whereas S&T is macro overlook and all that?
