How long until travel pushed you out?
Out of curiosity, so how long for those ex-consultants did it take you to say " I love my job, but just can't handle this damn travel." I think I'm hitting a wall here and dont know if its just something you plug through and accept, or if i'm hitting a wall it means i'm done.
How many hours did you work last week (incl travel time)?
i am not an ex-consultant... but I traveled weekly (approximately 60% domestic, 40% international) for about a year before I wanted to slit my throat.
now i travel about twice a month. cake walk.
Did you change firms or within?
guys, if i'm correct, this weekly traveling thing is optional right? Why are you guys killing yourselves over this?
Please let me know if i'm wrong. I would like to get into MC, but from my understanding you only have to travel to the project and back, so once every 2 months or so (or however long the duration of the project is). So all the travel in between that timeframe is optional, is that right?
If it is really so bad, then why do MC at all? Why not do IB and make twice the money?
I find it is the travel that is keeping me in consulting - http://corporatewhore.blog.com/1913246/
aceman is technically correct. The travel in-between is optional, but often not desirable. If you have a family and personal commitments, you wouldn't want to spend a lengthy period of time away from home.
Client locations can be pretty dismal with little to no form of sociable human life outside the office. In this case, traveling back home ensures you are able to enjoy a social scene to your taste.
