Commodity Trading Culture

Interviewing at a mid-tier BB for what I think will be commodity trading based in Houston. Can anyone speak to the culture from either the city or the asset class? Obviously varies from bank to bank but would appreciate any insight.

People in Houston have families- most people over 30 years old are at least married if not with kids, so most of the time people go home to be with their families rather than hang out for drinks.  Also translates into hours, power/gas floor is empty by 330 or 4 and oil/products mostly gone by 5 where I was.  So there is probably better WLB in Houston than most.

Also particular to Houston, very little emphasis on pedigree as most people come from state schools.

Aside from that, typical trading floor culture of giving new people a hard time, being busy during the day, and having off color conversations.

Thanks for the response — glad to hear so. From a non-target school in NE USA. Do people report in earlier due to time zone difference compared to NYC?
