Dutch Target University Ranking- Your Opinions
Hello everyone, I'm back with another university question. I have been looking around at Dutch university rankings. I have noticed the Netherlands don't seem to have the concept of target/non-target as much as we do in the UK. I would therefore greatly appreciate it if you could perhaps share your thoughts on the target Universities in the Netherlands. That is the best universities for breaking into corporate finance to be specific. I was mainly interested in knowing your thoughts on the University of Amsterdam (UvA), Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VUA), Groningen University (GU) and Maastricht University (MA).
Dutch institutions do not care about which university you went
If you are Dutch/ able to speak Dutch fluently, then RSM will give you the best shot for BB or PE (It’s very tough cause Dutch Uni are not a preferred choice for them)
Hi Maty, I would say for IB, students are often hired from Erasmus University Rotterdam specifically its Rotterdam School of Management. Furthermore, economic programmes at University of Amsterdam and then finally Technical University Delft (as they have a fin engineering specialisation)Programmes where students are recruited from are MSc in Finance & Investments at RSM, MSc in Financial Economics at Erasmus, MSc in Quant Finance at Erasmus, any equivalent programmes at UvA. I guess in terms of TU Delft it would be any engineering degree.You can derive company interest by the career events held by each uni for example Erasmus has the London Banking Cycle, International Banking Cycle, and Financial Markets Tour.Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Erasmus university especially the MSc in finance & investments(rsm) and accounting and finance ( Ese or rsm). On top of that you should have an average of at-least 7.5 and 2 or more good quality internships and some extra circulars like a board year or something and speak dutch (no compulsory but preferable). Don't bother about the other uni's - some students get hired from there but not a whole lot tbh ( i did my BSc at radboud and i know literally nobody who landed a decent position at a top tier multinational or pe/ib/vc/bb. Also my sister is at groningen - she says its not that great)
At Eur you should join the FSR or student investments club BnR beurs - plenty of networking opportunities with IB, corp fin, pe, etc employers

Interestingly, my sister also studies at Groningen (although not a finance-related program); I would asses her experience as mediocre so far.
Intriguing, although it makes sense that Erasmus University is preferred by financial institutions, given the strength of their management school.
Well alright, I thought that UvA’s overall academic strength, as they rank substantially better in all rankings than EUR, would compensate for their (comparatively) lacking focus in finance-related programs, but evidently not according to people in WSO.

Hey mate, I’m debating whether to attend Financial Economics at Erasmus or Quantitative Finance at UvA. I’ve heard from some that at least for NL it doesn’t make any difference but I would like to have your take on this as well please
Think the Dutch language point should be highlighted more. All the major recruiting IB events are all catered towards Dutch speakers, which is a huge pipeline for Dutch talent to get into London and their satellite offices in Amsterdam. Not speaking Dutch will exclude you immediately (Only remember Citi from all the BBs and EBs that didn't have this requirement) from these events and then you'll have to go through the regular recruiting pipeline. RSM will help you leverage to connect with alumni so you can answer the question why this bank in a more personalised way, but for the rest networking doesn't help that much at all in recruiting in London to get initial interviews. So you better have a stellar CV and grades to stand out from the crowd.
