UC Berkeley

Hi,

I recently got into UC Berkeley for Art History, given I am a transfer there really is not a chance to switch into another major given I do not have the pre requisites.

Through the advise of some teachers, I was advised to go to Berkeley over Santa Barbara where I was able to switch major to Financial Math and Statistics.

I feel like I made a mistake. I would really like to pursue a career in finance but I really do not know what my chances are at this point.

Should I back out and re-apply some other time for a better, more relevant major ?

I will highly appreciate any advice and insight.

Sincerely,

statFin

I can tell you that if your an art history major, it will be very very difficult. I know this from my experience recruiting at Berks. I don't know if you want to switch into a different major though....I don't know what your situation is... but I can guarantee that art history at Berks -> Finance....very difficult unless you count the accounting or like random financial services firms that come by to recruit like Northwestern Mutual?

Yeah, there are too many kids with Haas or quant degrees with 3.5+ gpa's not getting into finance. I think you can do the prereqs and transfer to econ or stats. I would say go there and try to transfer. They might tel you no now, but I don't see why you wouldn't be able to. Just get the prereqs done or planned during your first semester, then try.

They kick you out degree or not after two years. I am thinking my best option is to back out and re-apply some other time when I have all the pre-requisites in place.
