DE Shaw Spring

Does anyone else find it unfair that the DE Shaw Group recruiters only messaged target uni (Oxbridge/Lse/Kings/Ucl) students about the spring week? I go to a semi-target and my linkedin is stacked. How do you get recruiters to message you?

They messaged King's and not Warwick students?

Surprised King's is even on the list with what I have heard about their finance society.

Some guy studying business management and german at kings got it. What a joke

I'm at a top target and I'm pretty sure I got it because I applied for their summer (for which I was swiftly rejected) and they kept my CV on hand. Wouldn't look into it too much, especially because it's only 1 day.

"Linkedin is stacked" lmao with what, you're a student.

DE Shaw is a quant hedge fund, they don't care about irrelevant PE/IB experience. The only thing that matters is how intelligent they think you are.

School name + major is a decent way to select for this, especially in quantitative subjects.

I did the “spring”, it’s pretty much useless unless you’re bullshitting on your CV. Hell they NEVER used the phrase spring insight, it was just “London insight program”. Don’t worry OP you don’t miss out on much but DESCO does generally hire from targets. Think they were trying to recruit more for IR tbh

They reached out to people who had posted other spring weeks and essentially leached of the HR work of other BB/EB HR teams. They also contacted oxbridge / LSE people.

It wasn’t just for their investing roles, also IR and other stuff. It was just an insight nothing technical at all and no fast track or anything like that.

Not sure what you want anyone here to say - they will recruit as they see fit, if they see target unis as a proxy for a good hire, then they will do so.

Keep getting experience, keep networking if DE is what you want.

As for the people complaining about students from semi-targets etc. on the spring, they did not exclusively take semi-targets, you just didn’t make the cut for whatever target uni quota they had.
