ER Bonuses: 2013

Created this same thread last year and it had a good response so thought it would be helpful to do it again. I get a sense that the street was down across the board this year but all of the focus is on IBD and not ER or S&T so there's very few data points. It's helpful to collect as much comp info as possible to understand the health of our business and also for people to know whether they're fairly compensated. Obviously privacy/anonymity is important here but fill out something generic if you don't mind, as I have done below.

Firm Type: MM (Jefferies/RBC/Stifel)
Location: NYC
Role: 3rd/4th Year ER Associate
Base: 90k (unchanged, no raise)
Bonus: 50k cash (flat Y/Y)

What do you mean by 3rd/4th Year ER Associate? 3.5 years of total SS ER experience? Straight out of undergrad?

Firm Type: MM Location: Midwest Role: 3rd Year ER Associate (2.5 years experience) Base: 85k (+5K) Bonus: 25k cash (+5K)

Firm Type: BB Location: NYC Role - Associate 4th year (first at BB) Base: 150K Bonus: 55K

Was at small canadian shop in houston and just started at BB in May.

Entered ER (BB) out of undergrad (target) 1st and 2nd years were 65 base and 20 bonus 3rd year was promoted to associate, 100 base 50 bonus 4th year base/bonus flat 5th year uncertain...but looking for 30-50% jump at current firm or elsewhere

I call TOTAL BS on that - no BB firm is raising salaries that fast Your total comp would have gone up from $95K to $135K - 40%+ - NOT happening without you getting a promotion, also no one had to do it this year as some key firms kept their base flat...

10-15% total comp increase is as good as it gets these days for analysts before the promotion

BB 3 years out of UG (2nd year in ER) 2012 Base: 100k (raise to 125k for 2013; 70k in 2011) 2012 Bonus: 35k (up from 25k in 2011)

Best Response

125k for 2-3 yrs in er is pretty standard at my firm. I was promised 105-110 base comp range next yr (would be 1.5yrs in) If anything his bonus is ridiculously low.

ResEquity:
MM (Think RJ, Stifel, KBW, OPCO) 3 years out of UG (3rd year in ER) 2012 Base: 70K (same as when joined) 2012 Bonus: 10k (up from 5k last year)

I should note that I am not in NYC (considerably cheaper city). Still, i'm thinking I am getting significantly under compensated.

You're a 3rd year and you made 80K all in? That is terrible. Sounds like you're at Stifel.

Yup, you are correct on the ~80k

wait wait wait.... my mind has just been blown to pieces. I need some feedback... because either everyone on here has penis envy and is wayyyy inflating numbers.... or I seriously am clueless.

Is everyone here undergrad or post MBA? Becuase I aint even close to this stuff.

Firm: MM Base: 55.... (hired out of undergrad... currently in first year) Bonus: 5.... is that right????

Don't crucify me here.
