Franklin Templeton Reputation

Surprisingly not a lot of discussion here about Franklin Templeton. Does anyone have insight about its culture and teams / comparability to peer institutions (or, who are the peers?)/ how it's regarded in the industry? Anything would be much appreciated!

There's been some threads around about a number of AM firms, but very limited ones on FT itself. The few ones that do haven't generated much buzz, so I'm trying to bump it this time.

Based on the WSO Dataset, Franklin Templeton is mentioned in the context of post-MBA recruiting at top asset managers. The firm is noted for its presence in recruiting events, particularly in the Northeast of the United States and France. It's grouped with other high-quality boutiques and larger asset managers, indicating its solid standing in the industry. However, specific details about the culture at Franklin Templeton or direct comparisons with its peers are not extensively covered in the available data.

For a deeper understanding of Franklin Templeton's culture and its comparability to peer institutions, you might want to explore more specific threads on WSO or reach out directly to current or former employees for firsthand insights. Networking with industry professionals could provide more personalized and detailed information regarding the firm's internal environment and industry reputation.

Franklin is technically one of the largest asset managers by AUM (~1.6T). One of the reasons that there is not too much discussion on the firm as a whole is due to it being comprised of specialized managers that operate autonomously (ClearBridge, Western, Lexington, Putnam, etc). I believe they have about 20 managers under their umbrella, including the Franklin and Templeton brands. They’ve been making a pretty large push into the Alts space, making them one of the largest alternatives managers out there (~250b AUM). Regarding investment roles, you would likely recruit through the specific manager under the Franklin brand.
