I was wondering who the mods are for this site? Obviously, WallStreetOasis is a moderator (he is the creator), but are there other moderators? If so, who are they?

Suggested book(s) for a novice on personal finance?

I'm wanting/planning to give an older friend of mine, who is getting ready to have a kid and get married (the double whammy!), a book on personal finance. The guy knows very little about finance and at times has shown an incredible knack for making poor financial decisions.

When do internal promotions occur?

If the mega PE funds recruit 6-9 months into an analyst stint, and mm funds lag a few (or possibly several) months behind the mega-funds, when do internal promotions occur (2nd year analyst to 3rd year, 3rd year to associate, etc.)?

My brother is getting ready to apply to some graduate programs and will be taking the GRE. I'm not very familiar with the GRE or the normal grad school process (I'm only somewhat knowledgeable about GMAT and b-school). Therefore, does anyone know any sites that cater to the GRE or know which prep books are the best? Thanks.

Where to stay for your last week of the summer as an SA

I've seen people mention in previous threads that the NYU dorms are the best place to stay over the summer, but the downfall is that their summer dates end early (Aug 9 this summer, I believe). Therefore, where do all of the SAs go to stay for the last week of their internship if it goes past the NYU dorm end date?

Should I keep interviewing?

As noted by my thread the other day, I recently received my first true SA for IBD offer (meaning formal program in NY - I did have an offer from a smaller bank outside of NY, but they don't have a formal SA program) and I originally planned on continuing to interview for the next two weeks to see what else is out there.

I attend a very firm non-target (BCS state school, but zero banks recruit here for any positions) and I just landed my first true SA offer (i.e. major bank in NY). Therefore, I just wanted to thank everyone on the board that answered questions, gave advice, etc. because coming from a non-target, I didn't really have a large alumni base to get info from, practice interviews with, etc.

How many deals will an analyst actually see close?

After meeting with an alumnus last night that is a 2nd year associate (went straight from analyst to associate) at a middle tier BB, I'm curious how many deals an analyst will see through to the end on average (lets say middle tier BB, in an average group) during their analyst progam?

Citi's Quantitative Trading and Analysis program - any info?

I was wondering if anyone had any info on Citi's Quantitative Trading and Analysis program? Is this some quant trading group or is this just what they call their trading program? If it's a group, what do they focus on, how good is the group, how hard is it to get in, etc.? If it's just the name of a program, is it some special program or just their general trading program?

How to best answer the pitch me a stock question

It seems like almost all of my friends who have had SA interviews already have been asked the pitch me a stock (tell me about a stock you follow, tell me about a company you would short, etc.) question.

Therefore, I wanted to know if people thought it was best to pick stocks that are well known (e.g. Apple, Google) or if it's best to research stocks that aren't as well known?
