Asking for an extension...

Hey all,

I have a middle office offer that explodes September 12th. I interned at this bank during the summer, and unfortunately my school doesn't directly deal with this firm. I was supposed to work at Bear Stearns last summer and while I liked my internship, I'd obviously like to see if there's any chance I could get into banking.

Does anyone have any experience in asking for an extension, and further, do you have any advice on doing so? Last, what time range is too much? Would I be getting out of hand if I asked for an extra two weeks or perhaps even a month?

Thanks for any help you guys can provide.

Approaching banks you previously turned down offers from...?

I was supposed to intern in Bear's IBD this summer, but obviously had my offer revoked. I was unable to latch on anywhere else unfortunately and will be working in the TSS group at JPM (a couple other posts were made about this).

Anyway, I decided to extend my graduation by an extra semester to complete a double major in Fin/Acct, and take a few extra classes as well. The end goal of this move though was to be able to go through the SA recruiting process next year because I believe I'll have little chance of landing a FT position given the market conditions and by not having any IB experience.

I'm at a non-target, and I was just looking for tips on how I should approach firms I rejected offers from? I'm guessing most of these places (given that they were all relatively small) would remember me and question why I'm going for an internship again. Has anyone ever effectively pulled this type of move off?

Any tips or advice would be appreciated.

Hey guys,

As a former Bear SA, I'm just looking for some opinions - especially from people in the industry.

Are there ANY places hiring summer interns still?

Hey all,

I lost my summer position b/c of the Bear Stearns fiasco and am now looking for anything that might even come close to the experience I'd have gotten there.

Does anyone know any banks that are still hiring at this point? Or, does anyone know any equity research/asset management positions that are still taking applicants?

Delaying graduation by a semester?

I know the "delaying graduation" idea has been discussed before. However, given that I was supposed to work for Bear as a SA this summer, but had my offer revoked (and plan to include this on my resume), can this still be pulled off without me looking desparate?

NYU Summer Housing - Where'd you end up?

There have been a few posts that touched on this, but none specifically for it. Which dorm is your NYU Summer Housing assignment for?

Mine is for Brittany Hall. I looked for some info online and found it is a Freshman dorm. I find my situation to be rather funny, as I imagine myself, knowing what I know now, living in the Freshman dorms again haha.

Best College Class Schedule...

I just met with my adviser a couple weeks ago and will be handing in my schedule for the upcoming semester. I think everyone has a strategy they want to employ when making theirs (i.e. no class before 10am, classes M-Th only, etc.), but what was the best class schedule you ever had when in college.

Financial Modeling Practice

Hey guys,

I'm going to be an SA at a Semi-BB this summer. That withstanding, I want to get some practice with financial modeling. I am a non-target and want to hit the ground running, and feel this can be more easily achieved if my modeling skills are simply better than other analysts.

Question regarding WACC

Simple question - I forget the answer though. Why do you multiply the debt ratio and the cost of debt by (1-t)? Is it to account for the tax shield that you gain when you take on debt?

Thank you in advance.
