Stevens Institute of Technology
Hi,
I recently heard/read about Stevens Institute of Technology. WSO also advertises this school here. Does anyone on this board has any idea about this school?
I checked out their website, but it gives a very incomplete picture. Just curious to know more about the school, graduate programs, placements stats etc.
Thanks in advance for your input!
what do you wanna do down the road (as in a career)?
It's a decent engineering school, but it's on par with Rutgers or SUNY in terms of reputation. So that's why laxmonkey's question is pretty important. If you want to be an engineer- particularly when it comes to marine engineering, Stevens is a fine school. If you want to do banking or consulting, it's a lot harder to get in.
yup.. breaking into IB out of undergrad there proved to be extremely difficult for me (sent over 1000 emails, had 5 or 6 interviews, got one SA offer)
This question is on behalf of a friend of mine from India. He is looking to for a decent MS in comp. science program around nyc. I am not too sure about his career aspirations. He is a level 2 CFA candidate and has BE in Computer science from one of the top schools in India. He is more inclined towards tech side of the finance world. It would be great if you can recommend other schools around nyc for MS in Computer Science and give more details about Stevens. Thanks!
Hmmm. MIT and CMU would be the closest top five programs. Princeton could also work, but is further down the rankings list.
MIT and CMU are great, but they would be far from nyc. His cousin is in nyc and ok to share the place with him during the program. So, he can avoid accommodation cost if he finds a school around nyc. Princeton seems like a good option. Any other worth considering around the city?
ANT might know a few...go check out his site.
I don't see many Comp. Science schools on his site. Any particular site that I can refer to for computer science programs?
Columbia? NYU? Both have comp sci programs in NYC.

True, but if you want a top-20 ranking, I'm not 100% sure you want New York:

Columbia is the highest ranking at 17- it's a good school for CS, but it's very expensive if tuition isn't fully covered by a TA/RAship.
COL in NYC before rent is going to be higher than COL in downstate IL with rent.
I highly doubt an MS in CS from Columbia will hurt you long term, granted I'm no expert.
CMU has an NYC campus, and the degrees it issues carry no distinction from its main Pittsburgh campus. I'm not sure if they offer CS MS's there or only MSCFs, but that may be another option to consider.
Ever hear of South Hampton Institute of Technology? It's called SHIT for short...

Anybody know of Stevens Institute of Technology? Pretty prestigious engineering school, brother of a good friend got into their Quantitative Finance program with a lot of money. Is this a good program? Any rep on the street? I was asked about it and wasn't sure but know we hired a summer analyst from there (BB bank)
I went there for that, graduated last year, they teach you the right stuff and its getting better, but you have to find your own connections and seek out jobs. The BB only come for back office

Hey All,
Any of you guys went to or know anything about Stevens Institute of Technology in NJ? I'm considering it for Grad school (Masters of Science in Management - Project Management or Technology Management).
When i did some research it shows that its one of the top schools (#86 According to U.S News & World Report) Click Here That means its a 2nd tier school correct?
Any info about the school or the area would be helpful.
also What do you think about the combination of Having a B.A in Finance and a Masters of Science in Management PM or TM.
Thanks
86 is not a second tier
i have coworkers who went to the school for undergrad and from what i know the school recently started to expand and take more people in for undergrad -- and as a result the good jobs that they had solidly offered to a lot of students are now diluted
I'm sorry, # 86 is the very bottom tier. Everything outside the top 100 isn't really considered a school for any distantly remote practical purposes in Finance and can thus be considered out of the running or unclassifiable (and thus undeserving of placement into a tier).
No, this isn't just me being a sarcastic or elitist asshole, this is how the system works and you all know it.
