Switched to Whoop from Fitbit a few years back and have no regrets. Just know that it’s going to tell you to sleep more and drink less.
I think it depends on your goals. If you're interested in gaining physical fitness in terms of endurance training, I think it can be really useful. They recently released an update that captures strength training, but I don't think it's very accurate. Additionally, as far as I know, the rest required for strength training is different than endurance training which further exacerbates that issue.
Overall, if the person is interested in data and trying to optimize their lifestyle then I think it's a great gift.
Definitely worth it.

I buy random stuff for my own enjoyment or convenience all the time. As long as it provides some benefit in some way, it’s worth it
The question I have is, what do you guys actually do with that data that whoop provides? Some tangible examples would be super helpful to assess the utility of it
I don't have a Whoop, but for my Garmin, the sleep analysis is very helpful. Namely the amount of deep sleep you're getting. Whoop has some other sleep features too:

Whoop is great. I love mine. It makes me much more conscious of how my habits impact my body. Health is ultimate prestige.
