What big name banks are in Houston and what sectors do they have?

I want to do IB in Houston and I am gearing up to apply to all the major banks. I was wondering which ones actually have locations in Houston and what are some notable banks that don’t? Please list as many as you can because I haven’t found a website with banks in Houston. I am also open to banking in Dallas so what are the banks there as well. Thanks for the help in advance!

Can then go on these banks websites and see if they have an office in Houston. Most do.

Look at other WSO threads and there will be a lot of info about the different banks.

I had an offer from a Houston firm (turned down) and the technicals were basic IB technicals and O&G technicals/trends in the industry to gauge your interest.

If you go to a target/semi target for Houston banking there should be ample amount of resources and on campus info session. Best of luck.

Not to be too harsh but you need to figure out how to move more independently resourceful if you’re going to succeed in landing a “big bank” internship offer. Go on LinkedIn and search “investment banking houston” and start writing down all the names that pop up. Or just Google it. My advice is to turn it up, I know you’re just a freshman and are ahead of me when I was your age but if you want to succeed you’ll need to do better on the simple stuff before the hard stuff of deciding which group to join and nailing the super days.

Not sure why getting any monkey shit. Trying to give good advice. This advice is strictly for if getting a summer internship at a “big bank” in Houston investment banking is your goal because competition is steep and preparation is the best remedy for that. Asking simple questions of WSO waiting for a reply is not a good remedy when you could Google it and find clearer answers. If your goal is to do a different internship and then recruit for banking later down the road then that’s fine, was just trying to give you advice for the internship for investment banking, which is notoriously difficult to get the offer.

Totally agree. And note that these are skills that will literally translate on the job in IB. On your first day of work, your associate is going to ask you to make a couple of slides on an industry or company that you have never heard of and know nothing about. What are you going to do? Jump on an internet forum and ask?

Being able to figure out stuff that you are clueless about is essential to the job. If you are not comfortable with that, I seriously would consider another line of work.

Lastly, for Christ's sake, you are Gen Z and literally were born with the internet in your hands....use it.
