National Bank Finanical - Toronto?

Wanted to know if anyone had any insight into their reputation on Bay St. I've heard their M&A, Real Estate and Credit Capital Markets (not sure if LevFin or vanilla corp banking) are solid groups. Any info on comp and FT rotational program would also be greatly appreciated.

Region

Aggressively growing firm with a lot of smart people. They charge notably lower fees than their major competitors to win mandates, so they also pay slightly less than street across the ladder.

Reputation/exit wise its near impossible to exit to anything better than a Canadian pension, and that is already extremely tough given the competition.

I’ve heard they paid below average a couple years back but now on par with street if not higher

Andrew from Patrick's Monkey to Millions series interned at National Toronto this summer if I recall correctly and he told Patrick they were communicated that the group does not have headcount to give out interns return offers? I think that speaks of how 'strong' they are?? Somebody correct me if I am wrong

Can confirm that pay is at or above street at junior levels. M&A is strong as is the Montreal team, but both are sweatshops. The diversified team is also decent. Most other groups are fine I think but nothing exceptional. There is a focus within the bank on growing the financial markets business, which is probably a positive for future growth. Exits are on par with other Canadian banks (RBC being the strongest by far), but the Canadian buyside in general is quite small and competitive.

Obviously NBFs presence in the states is tiny so can’t imagine exit opps are great there, although I’m sure it’s simple enough to lateral to a larger US bank.
