JP Morgan First-Round SA IB Invitations are Out! (Mid-August Superday)
Phone screen invitations for the JP Morgan Technology SF IBD are out. superday is in mid-August. Anyone have experience with JP Morgan phone screens, especially the technology office in San Francisco?
Commenting to follow
I had a phone screen with JPM SF Tech IBD a few weeks back, very laid back conversation. Mostly fit, few basic techs. Brush up on your stuff and you'll be fine.
Phone screens are almost always more casual fit, behavioral conversations. Technicals are rare over the phone because with a non-controlled environment every fuckboy in the world would have notes open, the internet, and maybe even a a friend to help them get through technicals. Just focus on being laid back, know a lot of general stuff and market trends, know your resume and experiences, etc.
Any updates?
My interviewer said they are finishing the screens up this week or early next and then we will move from there.
You already had the phone/video 1st round??
I've had two phone screens and can confirm what @taulamep said, they will be finishing up screens this week/early next week and be moving forward from there
are these the only phone screen round the office is doing? or is it just for the mid-august superday and there will be further phone screens down the line?
How'd you end up with two screens?
Is this only for SF? What about NY?
Only SF and only Tech from what I've seen on here. NY must be later?
none of my friends have heard about NY yet, so assuming just west coast
For those who have had/are having phone screens, what caliber of schools do you go to? Cal? Ivy? SoCal schools?
I'm having a phone interview this week for JPM Tech IB SF with someone who happens to be an alumna a few years older than I. We both went to an HYP ivy.
I go to a HYPSMC school as well
What does the C stand for?
How many informational interviews did you do with the office before getting phone screened?
No informational interviews done. JPM recruits on campus though. At a HYPSMC.
Just got an email letting me know I was selected for a phone-screen. No informational interview done, just applied online.
Non-Target
Is there a major difference between the 2 phone screens? One technical, the other fit?
Are they doing FT IB recruiting? Have they started it yet?
Last year as a sophomore, I applied for S&T in August. Then got a 1st round invite in December lol... did not get past that, prob because it was sooooo late
How did it go for everyone?
Went really well. Guy loved my "why IB, why tech, and why JPM" answer. Also asked for trends in tech I'm following and any subsectors that interest me. That went well too.
Regarding technicals there was a question on the various valuation methods, walk through of a DCF, and a walk through of calculation of WACC.
Lastly he asked one mental math question (what is 17.5% of 24--I guessed and said because 20% is 4.8 I'd say 17.5% is 4.2).
The call ended with him asking me if there were any questions I had for him.
Overall pretty conversational in nature. He asked if I'd seen Dunkirk and what I was planning on doing over the weekend.
I'd say the only area I slipped up was describing my current IB internship transaction experience (it's the only area I hadn't practiced BC I assumed I'd have it down cold).
That's a lot more technical and intense than mine. I go to an HYPS and it was with an alum from my school. We just spent 20 minutes just talking about school and shared extracurriculars and then the office culture for SF (i.e. no face time culture, not tie attire, etc.) Just basic technicals on NWC and calculating cash flows as well as LBO drivers. None of that mental math stuff.
Applied to JPM but didn't get any invite. But randomly happen to have call with Associate in JPM tech tomorrow, could that be a phone screen?
The invite was an email from someone at the office. Did you reach out and request this call?
I reached out and requested an informational interview through LinkedIn. I was then asked for my resume through email and then we scheduled the call
Applied to JPM SF + NY, connected with a lot of people in the SF tech group though and was told to apply (which I did maybe ~2 weeks ago). Did i get dinged?
Did anybody receive a superday invite yet?
Just check the master Excel tracking document: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/19fBzOhbCBWz13mg5V1wA8TL8_1ewPP_…
was told that superdays would be towards the end of august and hear back after phone screens in the next couple weeks
@newyorkermonkey Are you a junior?
Have had two phone screens now. Not sure when exactly the timeline to hear back is but probably end of this week or early next.
Has anyone heard back about a superday yet?
no but should be a week or so
Fuck, thats nerve-wracking.
I still haven't heard. Extremely nervous to be honest. And it doesn't help that these weekends in August are pretty packed with back to school events but would trade those for being flown into SF for a shot and a job.
same here - nervous as well.
I have not heard back either, and yes August is pretty jam packed for me as well. I wouldn't worry, I'm pretty positive they haven't notified anybody yet
Yeah, I still haven't heard back either.
I've heard from a contact that the first superday will be August 18th, so you should hear back in the next few days I'd think
i was told early september or late late august
Hope everyone's interviews went well. Did mine last night. Felt pretty confident about it.
I thought you had your phone screen in July?
Video interview**
Thought I was posting on the other thread regarding three question recordings. I had a phone screen few weeks back, then got the invite to do a video interview. Waiting to see what happens next. What's your timeline looked like?
Anyone have any updates? I did my two phone screens, on with an analyst/associate and one with an MD and did the video interview (think it was more for NY though) but didn't have a chance to ask my second interviewer about the timeline.
done with phone interviews here as well, waiting to hear back - if first superday is aug 18, shouldn't we have found out by now?
Still haven't heard back. But I was once called in for a superday the night before the interviews. I expect they'll let us know on Monday/Tuesday.
Do you think its appropriate to follow up or best to just wait?
It's annoying to your interviewer to follow up. The thank you letter you sent right after your interview is all that is necessary.
fingers crossed haha - best of luck!
Any non-IB people hear anything after the video interview?
This is for the SF Tech office, which did phone interviews. Wrong thread.
anyone hear back about the first batch of superdays? they are running them both in mid august and mid september according to a contact in the office
Nope - though for an August 18th superday, they'd probably have let people know by now
I think this is a good sign. We're probably gonna be pushed into the mid-september superday.
lol bump?
Anyone hear back yet?
Nope - apparently first super day is tomorrow tho
I dont think it is. That seemed like speculation.
18th was speculation I think
Still haven't heard back.
Gonna followup with my interviewer
how'd it go?
