How do I...

I've been working at a huge investment bank for almost two years now, working for pretty much bananas and oranges. I mean the bananas were fine since I was in college, but I can't survive on it now that I have graduated. It seems as if I will never ever get my just raise. I have heard no mention of ever getting myself a decent pay raise. I am a little shy when it comes to things like this, and I am the hard worker type that just likes to come in on a daily basis and just do the work I am told without questioning compensation. Its not everyday you get to do something you love, but I feel like I am being used and treated pretty worthless. I feel like if I don't say anything now, I will continue to be walked on and used. Any suggestions on how I approach the situation?

Grab your cojones and say something. Don't be apologetic...if your base is arond $40k, you are getting paid under market. But what are your hours like? If you're only working 50hrs a week, might be tough to argue you should earn what other bankers are making.

You should speak up in your next review -- when they ask you if you have any concerns, questions, thoughts, you should say something like, "well i feel like my compensation is significantly below my peers for similar work, but I do enjoy working here. I'm not sure what you guys are able to do, but I feel like a pay increase is warranted."

that should do it...stand up for yourself...can't hurt to ask, as long as you have some tact when you do.
