Path to Energy Commodity Trading Seat

Been thinking about it for quite some time and I'm contemplating putting out a substack or other medium to essentially provide a one-stop shop for all things energy commodities.

I would basically split the content into 2 components:

1) Career Development (path to internship, full-time, excelling on a trade floor, recommended resources)

  • Recommended reading lists, white papers, podcasts, etc
  • Trading Resume template
  • Recommended Twitter accounts to follow

2) Weekly Market Recaps (Crude, Refined Products, Natural Gas, NGLs, Macro)

  • fundamental, technical, mental factors
  • outlook for week ahead
  • key developments in special situations (Russia/Ukraine, Israel/Hamas, etc.)

I'm pretty keen to get this off the ground as I know many traders (including myself) who would have really appreciated a curricula of sorts to better prepare for early career success on the trade floor.

This community on WSO help tremendously during my time in college way back when so looking to solicit some feedback from you all as to the usefulness, structure and medium you would like the information dispersed.

Any feedback/suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hey there! Your idea of creating a one-stop shop for all things energy commodities sounds fantastic. It's a great way to share knowledge and help others who are interested in this field. Here are some thoughts based on the most helpful WSO content:

1) Career Development: This is a crucial aspect. You could include insights from the WSO Academy High Finance Offer, which is a 12-week program that guarantees a high finance offer. You could also share tips from the WSO Resume Review and WSO Mock Interviews services, which are designed to help candidates land more interviews and offers.

2) Weekly Market Recaps: This is a great way to keep readers updated on the latest market trends. You could draw insights from the various discussions on the WSO forums, especially those related to Investment Banking, Private Equity, Hedge Funds, Real Estate, Venture Capital, Consulting, Trading, Asset Management, Credit, and Equity Research.

As for the medium, you could consider creating a blog or a newsletter. You could also host webinars or create video content. The key is to choose a medium that your target audience is most comfortable with.

Remember, the goal is to support and guide users on their journey to high finance offers. So, always prioritize the needs of your readers and provide them with reliable information and actionable advice. Good luck with your project, Mike!

Would like to echo the sentiments of the other poster, your career pathway and adjacent ladders would be illuminating.
Otherwise, I’d say personally that any technical/academic educational resources you could recommend would be appreciated, any other associated literature, that sort of thing. Finally, it’d be pretty interesting to read through any “tricks of the trade”, so to speak, you could provide.
Have a good one and good luck with your project. I look forward to reading through your substack once it’s up.

The first post is live and is a breakdown of this week's schedule in energy markets.

I plan on posting a detailed weekly recap covering all energy commodities by the end of the week.  Enjoy and always welcome your feedback.

Hey Mike, just wondering if you’d be able to drop a link here. Send a PM although seems it didn’t go through.
Thanks for all the work.
