HEC and LBS evaluation.
Hi,
I am interested in the MFA at LBS and MIF at HEC.
My GPA is 2.15 out of 1.0; however, I will apply with an expected GPA of 1.98. A GPA of 1.5-2.0 is upper second class, and 2.0-2.7 is lower second class. So I would apply with a GPA in the lower second class and an expected upper second class GPA.
Work experience: Worked at Elite Boutique (think Lazard, Evercore), a PE fund with 20bn and a few internships at smaller companies.
GMAT: Expected around 710
Extra Curricular: Member of Finance Club
That's about it. I have asked in a previous, but unfortunately, I didn't get the GMAT of 720 as expected, and my GPA at the time of application will be lower by 0.15 than expected, putting me in the lower second class instead of the upper second class.
Yeah, what are your thoughts, do you have any suggestions? Also, should I try and apply in the first round (October 1st) or in the second round (January) with an improved GPA?
Also, if I don't get into the above schools, which other schools should, I target? I was thinking of Nova, ESADE, IE, and Bocconi. I am primarily looking for a 1-year master's degree, preferably a Master's in Finance. Also my long term goal is IB.
As long as you get the equivalent of a 2:1, your gpa is good enough. Your gmat is bang on average for these 2 schools, ie good enough. Your work experience is outstanding. Unless you mess up royally your essays, I'd be surprised if you didn't get an interview at both, then, it's up to you. Also, definitely apply when your gpa is best, you need to have the equivalent of a 2:1 at a bare minimum.
Alternative schools I'd look at are LSE/Imperial/HSG, but imo apply to HEC/lbs first as you have a very solid shot at both
Oh ok thanks good to know - I wanted to apply with a lower GPA since I thought it better to apply early - especially since both unis allow for expected GPA in their application. Unfortunately, I only expect to have a better GPA in January (should have been more clear about that in the post above) - as it may take months for my uni to finish grading my bachelor thesis - so I may have to apply in round 3.
Hence if you don't mind me asking, if I don't get the grading by January, should I then apply with a lower score? Also, this is only important for HEC - there, I could apply twice - would this make sense? Also LBS asks for a minimum GMAT of 2.5 so I would fit the requirements either way - should I still wait?
