Graduate Internships

Attending a Masters in RE program and beginning to look for internships for next spring or summer 2025.

I plan on attending local meets up and such but right now I can’t find many internship postings (maybe I’m not looking in the right area?)

I’m also beginning to hit up alumni and such.

Any advice/wisdom for those looking for a real estate grad internship to pivot from debt to equity.

Based on the WSO threads, networking is indeed a crucial step in securing internships in the real estate sector, especially if you're aiming to pivot from debt to equity. Here are some actionable steps and insights that might help you in your search:

  1. Leverage Alumni Connections: You're on the right track by reaching out to alumni. Make sure to not only connect but also to have meaningful conversations about the industry, their career paths, and any advice they might have for someone looking to enter the field. Ask if they can introduce you to other professionals or know of any internship opportunities.

  2. Attend Industry Meetups and Conferences: Continue attending local meetups, conferences, and seminars related to real estate. These are excellent opportunities to meet industry professionals and learn about unadvertised internships. Make a memorable impression and follow up with the contacts you make.

  3. Utilize LinkedIn and Real Estate Forums: Make sure your LinkedIn profile is up-to-date and reflects your interest in pivoting to real estate equity. Join real estate groups and participate in discussions. Wall Street Oasis, for instance, has forums where you can interact with professionals and learn more about available opportunities.

  4. Check Specialized Job Boards and Company Websites: Besides general job portals, check real estate-specific job boards and the careers pages of real estate firms. Sometimes internships are listed directly on company websites well before they appear on broader platforms.

  5. Prepare Your Pitch: Since you're transitioning from debt to equity, prepare a compelling story that explains your interest in equity and how your background in debt provides you with a unique perspective. This will be useful in networking events and interviews.

  6. Seek Mentorship: If possible, find a mentor who is currently working in real estate equity. A mentor can provide guidance, feedback on your approach, and potentially open doors to opportunities.

Remember, persistence and a proactive approach are key in securing the right internship. Keep expanding your network and stay informed about the industry trends.
