I AM DESPERATE . I'M 20 YEARS OLD . HELP ME !

Hi, I'm 20 years old and I will not start university until I'm 21.

I have been admitted to:

  • University of Sydney (Bachelor of Commerce + Software Engineering, 5.5 years). I can also choose to do only Commerce (3 years).
  • University of Amsterdam: Business Administration (3 years).
  • ESADE: Business Administration (4 years).
  • Rotterdam School of Management (RSM): Business Administration (3 years).

I could also prepare for the SAT and enter Bocconi, but I would start the program at almost 22 years old.My native language is Spanish. I lived in Sydney for a year and I would like to change my environment, but I understand that it is the most prestigious option except for Bocconi

What decision would you make?

Do you think it would be difficult for me to work in IB? My main concern is my age.

After my degree, I plan to do a MIM/MIF at HEC/INSEAD/Oxford.
Thanks in advance

Navigating through your educational and career options can indeed feel overwhelming, especially when considering the competitive nature of Investment Banking (IB). Based on the WSO Courses and the insights shared by many on the Wall Street Oasis platform, here's a structured approach to help you make an informed decision:

  1. Consider Your Long-Term Career Goals: If your ultimate aim is to break into Investment Banking and later pursue a MIM/MIF at prestigious institutions like HEC, INSEAD, or Oxford, choosing a program that offers a strong foundation in finance and commerce, as well as opportunities for internships and networking in the finance sector, is crucial.

  2. Prestige and Network: While the University of Sydney is mentioned as a prestigious option, Bocconi is highly regarded in Europe for finance and could open doors in the IB sector. However, the universities you've listed, including ESADE and RSM, are also reputable and have strong business programs. Each of these institutions has its network and prestige, especially within their regions, which can be beneficial for internships and job placements in IB.

  3. Program Structure and Duration: Given your concern about age, it's important to consider the duration of the programs. A shorter program might seem appealing to enter the workforce earlier. However, the combined Bachelor of Commerce + Software Engineering at the University of Sydney, despite being longer, could provide a unique skill set highly valuable in today's tech-driven finance world. This could set you apart in the IB industry, where technology plays an increasingly significant role.

  4. International Experience and Language Skills: Having lived in Sydney and being a native Spanish speaker opens up diverse opportunities. Programs in English-speaking countries might offer a smoother transition, but studying in a non-native language can also significantly enhance your profile, showing adaptability and willingness to embrace new challenges.

  5. Age Concerns in IB: In the realm of Investment Banking, while age can be a consideration, it's your experience, skills, and network that truly matter. Many enter the field from various paths and at different ages, especially those who pursue further education like a MIM or MIF. Your diverse educational background and international exposure can indeed be seen as assets.

In conclusion, each option has its unique advantages. If you're leaning towards changing your environment and seeking a program with a strong business focus, ESADE, RSM, or the University of Amsterdam could offer exciting opportunities without significantly delaying your entry into the workforce. However, if you're drawn to the prestige and unique combination of commerce and software engineering, the University of Sydney could be a compelling choice, despite the longer duration. Remember, in the world of high finance, your skills, experiences, and the network you build are paramount. Age is just a number, and your diverse background could indeed be your strength.

What do you think about University of Amsterdam ? Is that bad ?
University of Amsterdam and University of Sydney have confirmed me that i have to do a foundation year . Is that bad ?
What do you think about Commerce and not software engineer included in Usyd ? it will be 3 years and i would be graduate with 24 instead of 26.5 with the double engineer program,
Give me your honest opinion and no being emotional.
Thanks
