What do students think of the Israel/Palestine protests?
Postgrad here. Wanted to see what people thought of the protests at Columbia, UCLA, etc. (especially students that attend)? Is the campus skewed one way or the other in thinking? Is it a fringe population who protests or the broader campus?
At my university, which has been having protests (but not one of the ones you mentioned), I would say that most students support Palestine. However, the people who go out of their way to vocalize it, or protest, are definitely more of a fringe population. So most people are pro-Palestine, but just go on about their lives, and the more hardcore left-leaning students are the ones protesting which is a much smaller group.
However, the vast majority of students who are part of Greek life support Israel. Lots of frat bros showing up to the protests to show out for Israel. Additionally, there is a popular app at my school called Yikyak (basically anon twitter for universities), that is very demographically tilted towards students in Greek life. On this app, there a TON of posts clowning the protestors. Compared to my school's reddit sub, which is very non-Greek life, the posts are very pro-Palestine.
tl;dr The avg student at my school is Pro-Palestine but isn't vocal about it. But Greek life overwhelmingly is pro-Israel. So theres def a divide.
ucla senior and i want them to fuck off so that we don’t get our commencement canceled like usc’s did
They are entirely counterproductive in a very 1968 type of way.
Which is pretty fitting given what an emphasis there has been since 2020 in regards to taking the wrong lessons from how history rhymes
Not to Hijack, what are the pro-Palestinian arguments?
The main argument is that Israel is a white, colonizer country.
Of course, Israelis are neither white nor colonizers as Jews are indigenous to Palestine and Palestine was given to Israel by the British Empire, which took the land from the Ottoman Empire. Palestine has never been an independent country. The Palestinians principal problem with Israel is that it's Jewish, and the Palestinians are overwhelmingly Muslim, and the Qu'ran is cartoonishly anti-Semitic.
Agreed, quite the kerfuffle. Agreed that the land know as "Palestine, Israel, and Jordan" were conquered in 1520 by Selim I of the Ottoman Empire.
Note that no one can actually dispute what I'm saying. No one can actually challenge the facts because the so-called Palestinians have never had the facts on their side and their supporters in America are a bunch of deranged leftists motivated primarily by their hatred for the United States and "colonialism." So instead of challenging the facts or admitting that Israel is primarily in the right in the conflict, they just throw MS. The worst thing these anti-Semites can do is admit that the Jews are not the primary evil on Earth.
They’re currently getting the shit bombed out of them - something like 30,000 dead and 60,000 wounded plus other aspects like famine, etc. - including women and children. There is plenty to argue about as to why, but it’s not the kids’ fault they’re dying.
