FT / Grad Schemes at BBs and EBs?
Would appreciate some advice on my personal situation: Non-target background and current off-cycle intern at a large BB and graduating 2025. Would love to go somewhere FT such as the likes of JPM / MS / EVR etc to a strong coverage group such as TMT / HC / Industrials. Any tips on applying or the process? If anyone works at these firms/teams, would love to hear your opinion as am pretty stressed about my future.
Also, this thread is for anyone who is interested in the process for applying for full-time positions at BBs / EBs so pls feel free to ask your own questions :)
Based on the WSO threads and advice shared by those who have successfully transitioned from non-target schools to full-time roles at BBs and EBs, here are some actionable tips for your situation:
Leverage Your Internship Experience: Since you're already interning at a large BB, make the most of this opportunity. Build strong relationships with your colleagues and superiors. These connections can be crucial for getting recommendations and internal referrals for full-time positions.
Networking is Key: Continue to expand your network beyond your current internship. Reach out to alumni from your school who are working in the firms and groups you're interested in (like JPM, MS, EVR in TMT, HC, Industrials). Use LinkedIn to connect and request informational interviews to learn more about their roles and to get advice on navigating the recruitment process.
Tailor Your Application: Customize your resume and cover letter to highlight experiences and skills that are relevant to the roles you are applying for. Emphasize any direct experience you have in the sectors you're interested in (TMT, HC, Industrials).
Prepare Rigorously for Interviews: Interviews at top BBs and EBs can be highly competitive. Prepare thoroughly by practicing technical questions, as well as behavioral questions that demonstrate your fit for the firm's culture and the specific group's focus. Utilize resources like WSO's interview prep materials to get a sense of what to expect.
Stay Informed: Keep up-to-date with industry trends and news, especially in the coverage groups you're interested in. This will not only help you in interviews but also show your genuine interest in the sector.
Application Strategy: Apply as early as possible since many firms have rolling applications and fill positions on an ongoing basis. Also, apply to multiple firms to increase your chances of securing interviews.
Seek Feedback: After any interviews or networking meetings, ask for feedback. This can provide you with valuable insights into how you can improve in future applications or discussions.
Remember, persistence and a proactive approach are key in securing a full-time position at a top BB or EB. Keep pushing forward, and utilize every resource available to you. Good luck!
