Want to Transfer to Ivey b-school of Western Ontario

Hi everyone,
I'm new to this site and I have a few questions to ask about transferring to Ivey b-school of Western Ontario.
I'm currently a U1 student at McGill doing the bachelor of Arts and Sciences. I'm majoring in maths and take two minor in management and psychology. I graduated from a Quebec CEGEP and my average is around 85-88%. Since I haven't start at McGill yet, Í don't have a GPA.
I was wondering if Ivey looks at the type of courses I'm taking. I mean, should I take two maths class, one financial accounting(the first half of the bus227) and two easy classes (one elective, one of my program) in order to have a high GPA or should I take 2 maths, 1 financial accounting, 1 not to0 hard (but not too easy) and 1 easy class? In the later case, I think I might have to cut off on my ECs in order to keep a high GPA.
And I forgot to mention that I do not have many ECs, I did some at high school, but not really during my two years of CEGEP because I did my high school in French and CEGEP in English so that I need time to catch up with native english speakers. Will Ivey take that into consideration?
Also, I'm planning to work in customer service and participate in a club at McGill to catch up with the Ecs. Will that be enough?

Thanks a lot

Agreed. Some people on this forum are so quick to bash or put down others that they don't consider their own idiocy.

Anyway back to the topic: lol_lol, to my knowledge Ivey doesn't penalize you for easy courses, though I think they do cut some slack for engineers since their courses are typically harder. I would look on Ivey's website to see if you are taking the appropriate courses to make up for the Bus 257 elective (they have a guideline for each school - McGill, Waterloo, Laurier, etc. about which combination of courses will equate to taking Bus 257). Just make sure you have a full 5 credit course for each year and follow whatever else they mentioned on their website.

As for your ECs, IMO, it's not enough. Unless you are applying out of high school for the AEO program, Ivey will give little weight to what you did in high school. Your second year application should mainly be focused on ECs in 1st and 2nd year. I don't know how to really quantify how many ECs is 'enough' but to give you a rough idea, I think each week you should have at least 10 hrs of EC activity in total. (It's a rough guess - it's been awhile, so current HBAers feel free to jump in and correct me if I'm off).

The application forms are structured such that you can fill in your ECs based on type (unless they changed it since), i.e., government, arts, sports, etc. An easy way to get some additional EC - I would suggest sign up for some intramural sports or activities. Maybe sign up for some lessons (e.g., fencing, martial arts...)

Hi, thanks a lot. Well, I don't have 1st year of university since I did Cegep. So I suppose they'll look at my ECs in Cegep and 2nd year of University at McGill? At cegep, I only organized a Cegep Day designed to help high school girls going to Cegep and I volunteered as a receptionist at a university residence for 2 years. For my first year at Mcgill (but 2nd of university), I'm planning to work part-time, so that'll maybe take 10 hours or so. However, I don't think that will fit into a leadership activity that Ivey looks for:( any suggestions?

Thanks
