JP Morgan Private Banking SuperDay
Has anyone attended a superday for Private Banking at JP Morgan? I have one coming up and would greatly appreciate any help.
- Questions asked?
- How many interviews?
- Which location?
Overview of the Private Banking JPM Super Day Interview
The interview will likely be 6 interviews. According to our users, the JPM Private Banking super day will consist of mostly fit and behavioral interviews.
You should plan to know the following:
- Know the stock price and CEO
- Understand some basic market dynamics and have a market outlook
- Why You?
- Why Private Banking?
- What area of PB do you want to work in?
Also you should note that if you are interviewing for an integrated team vs a products/solutions team - your role will have a strong client focus and therefore they will likely be testing your interpersonal skills vs. quantitative skills.

Preparing for Investment Banking Interviews?
The WSO investment banking interview course is designed by countless professionals with real world experience, tailored to people aspiring to break into the industry. This guide will help you learn how to answer these questions and many, many more.
Mostly fit/behavioral and talking about the markets (where is the economy going, where would you be investing, etc...). Mine was 6 interviews total. Really wasn't too bad... just know your story, why PB and what area of PB specifically, and have some thoughts on the markets.
Which office?
philadelphia
The interview will be very non-technical. As mentioned earlier, have a good general sense for what's going on with the markets (housing, interest rates, stocks, bonds, etc.)... But don't kill yourself trying to understand all the fundamentals and interplay of the different aspects of the market. They just want to know that you care about wealth management enough to have a fairly good idea of what is going on in the world... Maybe have an article or two you recently read and be able to discuss it... Here's an idea... Recent WSJ article talked about life insurance, and how high net worth individuals are pouring their money into it because of tax savings (something like that).
Also, are you interviewing for an integrated team, or a products/solutions team? If it is an integrated team, there is a very strong client focus, and much less quantitative than there would be with the products/solutions. With the integrated team, they goal is to eventually be able to talk to and acquire clients, which means they want you to be personable... So I guess just be yourself and try not to get too worked up about it.
Probably one of the more laid back Super days you'll have. I wouldn't sweat it too much. Good luck.
Know JPM's stock price at the moment you go to the interviews. Guaranteed to be one of the first questions that they ask and if you're off by a significant amount then they'll just zone out for the rest of the interview. Know why you want to do PB and why JPM above all other firms. There will also be a lot of "tell me about a time..." questions like when you failed or when you came through adversity. Be ready with good stories for these. Also, if you had $10 million how would you invest it?
Pretty basic stuff honestly and if you are personable and prepare for these questions then you should be golden.
Has anyone heard back?
When was your interview? I had mine 2 weeks ago. I was supposed to hear back 2 days after interview and never did, so I contatcted HR. Was told to "sit tight, because you're a great candidate, they're still waiting on there decision."....As in, I am an alternate... Tough spot to be in. When was your interview? If you got dinged, you'd probably already know. If it was a few days ago and you haven't heard... Good chance you're an alternate.
I received a rejection about 2 weeks after my interview... I think they could tell that I didn't really want to do Private Banking and that i was just using it as a back-up.
I received a rejection as well. Got rejected from both Goldman PWM and JPM PB. Very upsetting. I thought I nailed both.
Anyone have any idea of the number of positions taken vs number of people interviewed? I would feel a lot better knowing they were only hiring 3-4 analysts and interviewed over 50 at the Super Days.

Hey everyone! I am a first year MBA student. I have a final round with JP Morgan Private Banking office coming up for. I am wondering what kind of questions I should expect, and what kind of technical questions they might ask. thanks!

They may ask some banking related questions like, Do you have any idea about our bank policies/ schemes/ charges/ interest rates?
Know about the full spectrum of alternative investments and why they use strucutred notes. I am a JPM pb associate
They might ask you if you were a manager, what questions would you ask a prospective client in order to properly gauge their financial goals.
how would you answer it?
??
I would definitely recommend Vault Guide to Wealth Management Jobs http://www.vault.com/product.aspx?isbn=9781438167442 . It provides awesome description of what being a private banker is, but surprisingly gives only a few interview questions examples. Interview questions vary from bank to bank. I assume questions of general nature would be asked to the first year MBA student: the most important if you fit the corporate culture or not, and if you have strong client relation skills. JPM Private Banking super day? (Originally Posted: 02/21/2011)
Has anybody interviewing for the Private Banking SA position heard back after phone interviews? If so, can anyone shed some light on when the superdays will be?
When was your phone interview? I had a phone interview 2 Wednesdays ago (for JPMorgan IM not PB) and heard about superday the next night. My superday was this past Wednesday and I heard back Thursday night.
I had my second phone interview last Thursday for a SA position with JP Morgan Private Bank in Chicago with an executive director and an associate.
I followed up with HR a couple days ago and was told that they are extending offers by April. I am not certain if I will even be having an on site super day interview either.
What office did you interview with?
Prospective JPMers, what are fees for the client? How big is an average team, and what is its structure? What are the sorts of things they told you that impressed you / their strengths?
Would be great for guys that have been through the superday to provide an insight, as some of the previous posting on JPM PB are dated.
I don't think there is going to be an actual superday for JPM SA in Private Banking. Should just be a 2 rounds of phone interviews.
I am believe that jameshaha is right.
To answer newbie2banking's question, I am most impressed with the JPM folks willingness to communicate and keep me informed during the recruiting process. This has been especially true for their HR team (unlike Morgan Stanley).
If you are at all interested in Asset Management, I would definitely recommend applying next recruiting season.
Take a look at their website if you have not already: http://www.JPMorgan.com/pages/jpmorgan/private_banking.

PB =/= AM. You mentioned AM and gave him a PB link?
PB falls under the general AM umbrella, technically. And the title says PB, so it's pretty easy to infer what he's talking about.
Any offers so far for SA positions?
yes
That's great, congrats tangerine!
thanks :-)
hey tangerine which office did you apply for? I'm at the new york city one.
Just so you know jameshaha, many people choose not to give specific information about their professional lives as many professionals do come here to look around. That's by no means a rule or guideline, just something to keep in mind in the event you become a more active user. Anonymity allows you the opportunity to give a clear idea of what goes on at a particular job without fear of repercussions.
That being said, I don't know about anyone else, but I'd love to hear what your guys' experiences are working for the PB. I'd be really interested to see what your views are regarding the day-to-day of an SA (and for full-time, of course)!
I just had the superday interview with JPM global PB NY today. Non- technicals, just behaviors. Now, as a Vietnamese immigrant, I am praying.
Did you hear back yet? I interviewed 2 weeks ago and I’m still waiting. They told me it’d be around 2 weeks
i had my superday yesterday and my first interviewer was asking a ton of technical questions, did not ask me to introduce myself so I don't even know if they know my name. my second interviewer asked lots of behavioral questions and i could tell she liked me. what are the chances you think i get the role, the first guy was straight asking technicals and didn't really get to know me.
What type of technicals
Bump
I had an amazing friend of mine guide me through the process before turning the offer down. One thing they told me to know is the economy status and specifically the 10 year bond yield. These show at least a min knowledge base
