Infra PE Tips
Hey all,
Starting an internship at a top 5 infra pe firm in a month. Interview wasn’t very infra specific and I went through it due to my interest and experience doing a few modelling tests as a freshman.
Anyone have any tips or recommended resources to get as ramped as possible to maximize chances of return?

Based on the WSO content, here are some tips and resources to help you excel in your upcoming infrastructure private equity (infra PE) internship and maximize your chances of securing a return offer:
Deepen Your Understanding of the Sector: Infrastructure investment can be quite nuanced. Familiarize yourself with the specific sub-sectors within infrastructure, such as utilities, transportation, energy, and telecommunications. Understanding the economic drivers, regulatory environment, and typical deal structures in these areas can give you a significant advantage.
Refine Your Financial Modeling Skills: Given your experience with modeling tests, continue to refine these skills. The WSO Elite Modeling Package is highly recommended as it covers advanced financial modeling techniques that are crucial in PE, including LBO modeling which is particularly relevant.
Leverage Previous Experience: Since you have IB experience, use that to your advantage. Be prepared to draw parallels between the transaction processes in IB and PE, and demonstrate how your skills transfer. Highlight your ability to handle complex financial analyses and your understanding of due diligence processes.
Network Internally: Once you start your internship, take the initiative to meet with team members and learn from them. Express your eagerness to learn and ask insightful questions. Building strong professional relationships can be crucial for getting a return offer.
Stay Proactive and Take Initiative: Show your value by being proactive. Don’t wait for assignments; ask for them. If you see an opportunity where you can contribute, speak up. This shows your enthusiasm and commitment to the firm.
Prepare for the Learning Curve: Read industry reports and stay updated with market trends. Websites like Infrastructure Investor and traditional financial news outlets can be useful. Understanding current events and their impact on infrastructure investing will help you contribute to discussions and might give you a few ideas for value-add initiatives.
Practice Professionalism and Attention to Detail: In PE, attention to detail is critical, especially when it comes to financial modeling and preparing investment committee memos. Always double-check your work and maintain a high standard of professionalism in your communications and interactions.
By focusing on these areas, you can maximize your learning and contributions during your internship, thereby increasing your chances of receiving a return offer. Good luck!

If the firm invests in actual assets (ie wind farm, toll road etc) then learn about project finance
