Moving from FP&A / Corporate Finance into Commercial Credit / UW / PM

Seeking advice on a potential career shift I’m considering. Background: I’ve spent 12 years in corporate finance (think FP&A, financial reporting, strategic planning) and currently am the finance business partner for a large commercial bank (basically serving as the CFO to the Chief Credit Officer organizations well as the Underwriting and Portfolio Management organizations). Long story short, due to broader cost cutting and restructuring, my position is being eliminated.

As I consider what to next in my career, the thought occurred to me that, I’ve always wanted to be more involved in the business side of things as opposed to being in a glorified reporting / management accounting role. A job in credit appeals to me as it leverages what I know already (ie financial statement analysis, ratio analysis, investment analysis) and it gives me an opportunity to be closer to the profit centers as opposed to middle/back office function.

I’m planning on bringing this up with the head of UW&PM in my next 1-1 but wanted to gauge this forum on the following two questions:

1) what job function/level can I get away with starting at? I’m currently a director in corporate finance so I definitely wouldn’t be starting at that level but I don’t want to start off at the same level as an analyst fresh out of college. I feel my 12 years of experience should count for something.

2) aside from the basic financial modeling, statement analysis, investment analysis, what other topics should I get educated on?
